1. Introduction
Welcome to Skillume (referred to as the "Platform"). These Terms of Service (referred to as the "Terms") define the conditions under which you may access and use our website, mobile application, and all related services (collectively, the "Services"). By creating an account, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms.
2. Eligibility
To use the Platform, you must be at least 18 years of age and fully competent to enter into these binding terms. Use of the Services by students under 18 years of age is strictly permitted only under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian (referred to as "Family User") through their registered account.
3. Educator Responsibilities
Users registering as educators (referred to as "Educator Users") agree to the following obligations:
- Guarantee that all profile details, credentials, teaching background, and services are true and accurate.
- Provide a safe, supportive, and high-quality educational environment for all students.
- Comply with all applicable local laws, regulations, tax liabilities, and licensing rules.
- Secure and protect student and family personal data, keeping it confidential and never using it outside the Platform.
4. Family Responsibilities
Users registering as parents or guardians (referred to as "Family Users") agree to the following obligations:
- Ensure all children profile info (age, interests, learning goals) is correct.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with all Educator Users.
- Provide appropriate adult supervision during sessions when necessary.
- Settle payments in full for booked sessions according to the billing schedules.
5. Payments & Refunds
All online payments on the Platform are processed securely through our payment provider, Stripe.
- **Billing**: Family Users agree to pay session fees specified at checkout via Stripe.
- **Platform Fee**: To support the infrastructure and operations, a 10% platform fee is deducted from the session earnings.
- **Refunds**: Completed sessions are non-refundable. Exceptional cases (e.g. educator no-shows) will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
6. Session Rescheduling & Cancellations
Rescheduling and cancellations should be coordinated as early as possible to respect users' time.
- **Rescheduling**: Must be agreed upon by both parties via chat before updating the booking calendar.
- **Cancellations**: Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance are free of charge. Late cancellations may incur fees according to the educator's policy.
7. Learning Recaps
Learning Recaps are crucial tools to document and share student growth.
- Educator Users agree to write constructive and honest recaps after every tutoring session.
- The content ownership belongs to the student's family and the respective educator. The Platform uses recaps solely to maintain systems and support users.
8. Reviews & Ratings (Future)
The Platform may introduce feedback reviews and ratings for educators. Reviews must be honest, constructive, and free of defamatory, abusive, or fake comments.
9. Platform Disclaimer
Important Disclaimer
Skillume is a marketplace matching families with independent educators. We do not employ educators and are not a party to the direct contracts made between users. We make no warranties regarding the quality, suitability, or outcomes of the tutoring services.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Skillume and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the Platform or services.
11. Account Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or delete your account immediately without notice if you violate these Terms or jeopardize the safety of our users. Users may delete their own accounts at any time via the Settings panel.
